Title: SUNBEAM

The title refers to bright light reflections in the painting and to the manufacturing company that makes toasters. Sunbeam's interesting composition is balanced with three geometric shapes: the square toaster, the rectangular pepper, and the spiraling electrical cord. The light source is coming from the front. The half red pepper in the center shares the focal point with the bright, white, light next to it. The brush strokes a broad and definitive. Color is used confidently with large blocks and little blending. The artist painted the pepper with attention to detail and form, leaving the viewer the sense of looking inside of it. In contrast, the toaster is painted more abstractly, without too much detail or form, and the viewer senses the outside environment in its reflective surface. The bold color scheme is also important to the balance of the painting. The table is a mix of browns warmed with a dark red. The background looks like yellow ochre toned with white. It is bright enough to stand up to the reflection in the toaster and provide the needed contrast in an otherwise dark picture. The contrast makes this piece of work more powerful.
